HTC Unveils World's First 1080p Smartphone HTC J Butterfly

Total pixel resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, as well as 440ppi pixel density.

HTC has unveiled the world's first smartphone that features a full HD, 1080p 5-inch display, the oddly-named HTC J Butterfly.

The Android-powered smartphone will be the first device to utilize Super LCD 3 standard. Comparatively, existing HTC smartphones such as the One X use Super LCD 2 technology.

Super LCD 3 delivers a total pixel resolution of 1,920 x 1,080, while current generation handsets contain 1,280 x 720 pixel displays. The HTC J Butterfly will have a 5-inch touchscreen with a 440ppi pixel density.

Other specifications include an 8-megapixel camera situated on the rear, a 2-megapixel front-facing camera, full HD video recording support, a Qualcomm 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. The HTC J Butterfly's storage can be expanded by a further 32GB thanks to a microSD slot, as well as the fact that it boasts 4G LTE connectivity.

The device itself is fairly slim at 9.5mm, while it also contains a 2,020mAh battery. The smartphone will run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, in addition to Sense 4.

Unfortunately, the smartphone, which will be available in white, black, or bright red, has only been confirmed for a Japan launch in December. Hopefully it won't be long before we see a version for the rest of the world.
